Is Melmac Mushroom a Penis Envy Strain?
Melmac Mushroom is a lab-bred variant of the Penis Envy strain. It can be found under different monikers like “Melmac Penis Envy” or “Homestead Penis Envy.” In fact, some rumors suggest that Melmac is actually more similar to the original Penis Envy that was available in the 1970s than the current cultivars on the market. Terrence McKenna is said to have brought the Penis Envy from the Amazon Forest, but the credits go to Richard Guitierrez (Rich Gee). The mushroom spores got stabilized in a laboratory setting, and became a subspecies on their own. Fast-forward a few years, the Homestead company was “fooling around” the original Penis Envy and as a result, they got the Melmac. Its name is said to have originated from the fictional planet Melmac, home to the beloved 1980s television character, Alf.

The potency and dosage of the Melmac mushroom remain a subject of speculation and curiosity. Enthusiasts often attribute the Melmac mushroom with unique properties, giving it a legendary status among other psychedelic mushrooms. It might be due to nostalgia.

Take it from someone who loves “old school” practices, and entertainment. The fame of Melmac is mostly due to its history. There is something mysterious about a subspecies of an already established shroom, bred entirely out of curiosity.
Like any other psilocybin mushroom, the Melmac offers a wonderful trip filled with vivid visuals, feelings of euphoria, and profound visions. The trip varies based on the set and settings, and occasional feelings of nausea or anxiety may occur. So as far as potency goes, we’re not sure how potent you will find the Melmac. It’s pretty similar to other psychoactive mushrooms.
The Dosage
The proper dosage of the Melmac mushroom depends on what kind of psychedelic experience you’re expecting. For microdosing, we recommend up to 0.5 grams. The only remaining question is: can you buy Melmac shrooms? Yes. Melmac spores are available on the market, and most providers know and respect the difference between Melmac and Penis Envy.
Now, as we all know, cultivation of cubensis strains falls a bit in the gray are of legality. It is legal to buy mushroom spore swabs or syringes, and then grow Melmacs at home with a mushroom growing kit.
To grow Melmac, you’ll need a sterile environment and a proper substrate (such as a mix of vermiculite, brown rice flour, and water). You should also maintain a stable temperature of around 75 °F (24 °C) and keep humidity levels high. It might take them a while, but they’re worth the wait.
